Enhancing Self Leadership

Authenticity makes people effective
People like to be authentic, or in dynamic language: people like to be real.

People like to feel who they are. Above they like to belong to the people around them and they like to matter.

When these prerequisites are fulfilled people feel energetic, happy and empowered to contribute.

For an organization authentic people add value through engagement with their work and with contacts, and through inspiration for improvements and innovations.

A life long burden
Negatively, when people don’t feel allowed to be themselves they feel rejected. When they are not part of their surroundings they feel deserted.

And when they don’t matter, they don’t feel valued. These situations could fuel a fear of rejection, respectively a seperation anxiety and an inferiority.

These fears are often not shown at the surface, but they are hidden in the unconsciousness of people. However, these fears may become active and visible when people withhold themselves unconsciously from reacting engaged or inspired in a situation.

The value of self-confidence and self-consciousness
Let us look at the factors that influence the reaction of people to recognition and rejection.

People may have built a strong self-confidence and perhaps also a strong consciousness. With a strong self-confidence people are able to be autonomous, and don’t have to be dependent on recognition or they don’t have to be sensitive to rejection. With a strong consciousness people know when they can afford themselves to be receptive for recognition, and when to neglect or block rejection.

People with a low self-confidence are dependent on recognition and connection, and they are very sensitive for rejection. With a strong consciousness they could learn how to cope with these situations. This helps them to survive, but it would not be necessary if they would be self-confident.

Self-confidence leads to natural empowerment and success
People who are self-confident often have adult positions in organizations, with accountability and responsibility for results and people.

People without self-confidence often have emotionally safe positions in organizations. They are merely occupied with executing tasks or working with content.

Self-confident people normally create more added value for organizations and are better financially compensated. Self-confident people also keep on enhancing themselves, which feeds their self-esteem and makes them more versatile. They feel that life is rewarding.
